Our free Computer recycling service covers the collection and recycling of all types of Monitors. Many of the dangerous chemicals we all want to eliminate from electronic products are found in very small amounts, but there’s one toxic substance that is still prevalent in house holds in the UK, cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays. A typical CRT contains approximately 1.36 kg of lead. CRT Monitors are listed under the environment agency as hazardous waste and is illegal for organizations to simply place it in the skip at end of life. CRT recycling is an important factor in combating soaring levels of ewaste found at landfills. CRT recycling helps combat unwanted hazardous weee waste from leaking into the environment.
TFT LCD Recycling
As of April 2010, The Environment agency has reclassified TFT and LCD monitors including laptop screens as Hazardous Waste. Flat screen recycling is as important as CRT disposal & recycling since Arsenic and mercury are industry standard materials used in liquid crystal displays (LCD’s). Arsenic is added during the manufacturing of the high performance glass used in LCD’s to prevent the formation of defects, and the fluorescent lamps used to illuminate LCDs contain minute amounts of mercury.
Almost 98% of an LCD Monitor can be recycled All plastics are removed to be recycled into new products. Printed circuit boards can be recovered from LCD recycling and are smelted to recover valuable metals and cabling is stripped to reclaim copper and other metals. More recent flat panel monitors are adopting the use of LED technology for illumination thus reducing the need for LCD displays.
